The Decision Services organization at UCSF exists as part of the
Center
of Excellence for Breast Cancer Care. Led by Laura Esserman, MD, MBA,
the COE-BCC is developing the systems infrastructure to provide
real-time, point-of-care decision support to patients and physicians.
The goal is to tailor treatment to patient preferences and biology,
based on medical evidence and clinical performance. This requires
compiling and organizing the
evidence about the survival and quality of life effects of
interventions. We are collaborating with universities, foundations, and
companies around the world to create a working system in breast cancer
as a first application of our informatics platform.
