DatStat Announces First Annual DatStat Research Enhancement Application Mechanism (DREAM) Recipient

SEATTLE, Washington – February 16, 2006 – DatStat, the enterprise product leader for interactive surveys and feedback management, today announced the recipient for DatStat's first annual DREAM program, Jeff Belkora, Ph.D., Director of Decision Services at the Center of Excellence for Breast Cancer Care, University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).

A yearly award, the DREAM program was developed to help researchers take their evaluation projects to the next level through improved data collection and streamlined analysis. The DREAM recipient, Jeff Belkora, is provided a free one-year license to use DatStat Illume™ software to collect online data for an upcoming research project. He will be assigned a project manager with a strong background in research methodology and survey design to assist in creation and publication of the online survey. This package of product and services is typically worth over $25,000.

A faculty member of UCSF, Belkora has been involved in the design, evaluation, and implementation of decision support for patients wishing to participate in their treatment choices. He is especially interested in the integration of decision support into clinical practices, moving decision research out of controlled academic conditions and into the field.

The DREAM award will be applied to Belkora’s current research projects; which include the integration of educational videos into the routine clinical care of the UCSF Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center. The award-winning videos are produced by the Foundation for Informed Medical Decision Making, and patients will be reviewing them to prepare for scheduled appointments with surgeons and oncologists. DatStat Illume will be implemented to help evaluate success in terms of maximizing the number of patients who view the right video at the right time, evaluating their satisfaction and receiving editorial feedback on the videos that can be provided to the video designers.

"This opportunity truly is a dream come true," stated Belkora. "My Decision Services group will use DatStat's products and services to enhance decision support to breast cancer patients at the UCSF Breast Care Center and beyond. DatStat's products and services have the potential to catapult our evaluation forward, as we are dealing with multiple complex surveys, administered at different time points, and with an item bank that is evolving as we learn what works and what doesn't. We look forward to discovering all that DatStat can do for us."

"It's our pleasure at DatStat to provide this opportunity to facilitate Belkora's cutting-edge research," stated Elizabeth Miller, DatStat President and CEO. "Awarding our products and services to Belkora and the UCSF Breast Care Center supports our goal to help researchers leverage the latest technology for a greater impact on their field and the world."
