Different patients may face very different issues depending on their age, general health, specific diagnosis, and genetic profile (to name only a few factors). We’re developing software (or implementing externally developed decision aids) to help patients get tailored forecasts of their survival and quality of life prospects under different treatment scenarios. For example, oncologists at the UCSF Breast Care Center already consult the validated predictive models at www.adjuvantonline.com to forecast the survival impact of different treatment strategies, and we are testing the use of these models with patients.
