Newly diagnosed breast cancer patients are often advised to "read Susan Love's Breast Book, make a list of questions for your doctor, bring a friend to take notes, and make a tape recording of your consultations." Such practices have been proven to be associated with improved patient health and satisfaction. However, patients diagnosed with a serious condition may be suffering from emotional and cognitive overload, and may be able to prepare or engage in this way. Decision Services provides patient education, patient participation, and decision aiding programs to help people engage in communication and decision making and get care that is tailored to their needs.
